6-073: Merchant Freighter Spanial – Port Airlock
She smiles a genuine smile in response, “Thank you Lia, let me know when you know.”
“I will be in Control monitoring the unloading.”
She nods toward the airlock door, “for now, the stevedores are here.”
Indeed, the airlock chirps to indicate that the stevedore reps are outside.
As cargo master, Lia’s job is a mix of general direction and supervision of the stevedore crew as they unload the cargo. (At smaller ports, the crew sometimes have to unload the ship themselves.)
Basically, the expectation is that she will:
- Meet the rep
- Organise the admin for where the cargo has to go
- Give access to the cargo hold
- Direct the order of unloading
- Monitor the unload from the Cargo Master’s workstation just inside the bay (or optionally from Control)
- Ensure the ship remains safe and secure during the unloading operation
- At completion, confirm that both the cargo and the stevedores are off the ship
- Secure the hold
Lia will return Jennie’s smile and head off to supervise the unloading and all of her other duties.
Since this is the first time she’s been in charge she’s a bit nervous about getting it right.
