6-062: Merchant Freighter Spanial – Control Room
Jennie sits in her accustomed seat, looks up at the viewport, and mumbles something about having the star in her eyes.
Then she opens a comm channel to the shuttle. Lia suspects she is moving slowly and deliberately so Lia can follow her actions.
She begins talking with Kwint about the undock and sounds the maneuvering alarm.
She shuts down the Spanial’s thruster and the ever-present rumble to which Lia has become familiar is noticeable by its absence.
Shortly the Hangar bay doors open and Kwint pushes the Hio away from the Spanial with a burst from the attitude thrusters.
Jennie checks her instruments and makes a tiny correction.
To Lia she says, “just adjusting our course back to where it should be. The shuttle’s departure gave us a small lateral push.”
Then she says, “let’s watch,” and spins the Spanial slowly back on its drive axis in a reverse of the maneuver the Lia did earlier, rotating it through a full 180°. Lia may note that this removes the primary star from the centre of the pilot’s viewport.
This close, Lia can make out the aerodynamic shape of the shuttle receding away from the ship with her naked eyes.
Kwint says over comms, “thrusters on.”
A jet of flame emerges from the back of the shuttle and it accelerates ahead out of view.
Kwint says, “see you there Spanial.”
Jennie responds, “Ack that Hio. Spanial out.”
Then effectively to herself she says, “Thrusters on.”
She reactivates the Spanial’s drive and the rumble returns.
Lia is free to interrupt or ask a question at any point.
Lia will not interrupt. She is in fact, quite absorbed in watching Jennie do what she does.
