I-100-Lia: Roseman Downport

Heaven Scent

I thought Temptation was the one for Raina.  I have been tracking it as such.  I vaguely recall you mentioning wanting to start on another, but I don’t think we took any action.  As a book-keeping exercise (cause it affects when she can roll for how good the other one, whichever that one is) is it easiest to split the time evenly between the two?

Roseman

The mainworld of the Roseman system is a tiny ball of rock that orbits a Red Dwarf star – Tumie.  Though only in the second orbit and right on the star’s Safe Jump Radius, the star’s low energy output makes for a freezing world.  A tiny planet, local gravity is only 0.2G, and with that small mass, Roseman is tidally locked to Tumie, always keeping the same face to the star.

Roseman is unusual in the Dominion in that it does not have a significant Highport; though, there is one of the Legion’s old Light Carriers in permanent orbit around the planet that serves as a base for such orbital tasks as may be required.

Commercial shipping either remains in orbit and is serviced by shuttles and auxiliary craft, or comes down to the Downport.

As an airless rock with low gravity, the Dominion’s colonisers noted a high, lone mountain near the substellar point (the part of the planet closest to the star), and decided to build the downport on it.  Though there are the usual runways and landing fields at the base of the mountain, some spacecraft that would usually dock with a Highport can opt to dock at one of the docking gantries that ring the mountain peak.

Roseman has a population of just under 200,000 people.  Not all Way Stations have any substantial industry, but Roseman is rich in certain minerals and metals and has a small but robust mining industry and some cottage manufacturing to value-add to those resources to meet local needs.

Lia will most likely be asleep when the Medium-Impact Maneuver warning sounds and Jennie announces, “all hands, all hands, we’ll be commencing our docking approach with Roseman Downport in one Task.  Secure loose items and strap in, report status when secured.”

Lia may want to pack away anything loose on her worktable, and then she can secure herself in one of the appropriate locations around the ship that have strap-in facilities (her bunk is one such place if she decides to stay in bed!)  I guess if she’s feeling conscientious, she can go to Cargo Operations and double-check the cargo too.

There’s definitely more lateral movement, G-forces and vibration than a usual docking, as Jennie brings Spanial down on its tail using the main thruster into one of the docking gantries near the mountain peak.  There’s a couple of vibrations through the hull, and the hum of the thruster through the ship’s structure dies away; Jennie announces all clear.  Then Karmen comes on and announces an impending customs check.

Wisdom of the Streets

Lia heard from someone she met once that they scored some Zoner! from the central shopping market in Twilight City.

  1. Lia Silver-Rose says:

    Sure, let’s say that.

Lia would have stowed her workbench equipment prior to sleeping if she knew we’d be docking during her sleep cycle. She will make her way to the cargo bay in preparation for a customs check.
